Hermann Hesse – With pen and colors
Works from Heiner Hesse’s legacy
Kunsthaus Stade

The exhibition, at Stade Kunsthaus, displays about 150 items from the legacy of Hermann Hesse’s son, Heiner Hesse (1909–2003), offering an overview on the wide range of Hesse’s paintings, from his first works to his latest works. Moreover the exhibition will focus on Heiner Hesse’s life as well as on his relationship with his father. Curators: Regina Bucher and Ina Hildburg.

Hermann Hesse began writing the adventures of tramp Knulp already in 1907, yet the book was only published in 1915, during World War I. These stories depict the portrait of an amiable outsider who refuses the bourgeois social order and accepts an adventureous life, insicure and lonesome in favour of his personal freedom.

Museum Hermann Hesse hosts Monte Verità:
«Dada» F. Glauser in Hannes Binder’s drawings
Museum Hermann Hesse Montagnola

The exhibition displays 20 scraping drawings by Zurich illustrator and graphic artist Hannes Binder (born in 1947). The artist, who lived in the surroundings of Ascona, dedicated these works to the text Dada by Swiss author Friedrich Glauser (1896–1938). The works also refer to the two dadaists Emmy Ball-Hennings and Hugo Ball, who belonged to Glauser’s circle of friends as well as Hermann Hesse’s.

Exhibition

 

Hermann Hesse died at the age of 85 and repeatedly praised « the treasure of images which become part of our memory after a long life». This exhibition takes the visitor throughout the period of the writer’s life from the age of 50 until his death, through memories of his life, writings and photos.
The beautiful photos were mostly shot by Martin Hesse, the writer’s youngest son.
This exhibition was conceived by Hermann Hesse-Höri-Museum in Gaienhofen (Ute Hübner and Günther Troll) where it was shown in 2012.
In Montagnola the exhibit will be in two languages, adapted to the space of the museum.

Hermann Hesse reached the wonderful age of 85 and was able to appreciate the positive sides of aging.

The account of a journey with live music and pictures by Theresa Dold

 

Inspired by Hesse’s work, the young singer Theresa Dold (www.theresadold.de) decides, in Summer 2010, to start a long journey on foot with Montagnola as final destination.
With a rucksack, a tent and a guitar, she leaves from her town in the Black Forest and walks for 500 km. After many adventures she reaches Montagnola, in Ticino, in only four weeks.

Hermann Hesse and butterflies

Exhibition

 

Hermann Hesse loved butterflies. He wrote severals texts on butterflies which were, and still are,
very popular in Japan. The exhibition was conceived in Japan by butterfly expert and Hesse’s fan Kosuke Niibe and Asao Okada, translator of Hesse in Japanese.
In German, Japanese and Italian.
The display of several butterflies pivots around Hermann Hesse’s short story, Das Nachtpfauenauge

[The emperor moth].


Curator: Herbert Schnierle-Lutz.
The exhibition is enriched with additional material as well as the Italian translation of the original German–Japanese version.

Concert
S. Abbondio’s Church, Gentilino, 20.45

The Profeti della Quinta, an Ensemble composed of five singers accompanied by lute and cembalo,
will play Un Hebreo a Mantova, work on jewish texts by Salomone Rossi, as well as Italian Madrigals by Rossi and Monteverdi. Around 1600, the two composers worked at the court of Gonzaga in Mantua, and often set the same poems into music.


In collaboration with Ceresio Estate.

Reading for the 51st. anniversary of Hermann Hesse’s death

Between 1917 and 1918 Hermann Hesse wrote beautiful poems and texts, collected in 1920 in the volume Wanderung [Wandering], illustrated with watercolours by the author. These writings are a metaphor of his wandering from the cold North to the warm sensual creativity of the South.

The town of Calw presents itself in Hesse’s adoptive hometown in Ticino.
Hermann Hesse celebrated Calw, his birthplace, in many of his short stories and essays, such as Das erste Abentuer [The first adventure] (1905), Heimat [Home] (1918) and Flossfahrt [The rafting] (1928).
The Reading will include excerpts from these works, with piano accompaniment.
With Antonio Ballerio (Italian) Annette Franziska Kühn (German) and Renate Laich-Knausenberger (piano).
